Let me start by saying that the 2017 vintage in the Piedmont region was spectacular. The wine starts with an overwhelming concentration of fruit. Rich spice, tobacco, and black cherry-scented wine is massive on the palate. It continues with dried rose petals, tar, cedar, truffles, licorice, and almost a cherry liqueur. With this much going on, it’s important to know all these flavors are held together by great tannins and long vibrant acid.
